The Tawmis Video – from the SierraChest.com 10 Year Anniversary!

Rudy, who runs SierraChest.com wanted to make a video with several submissions – and was kind enough to ask me to be a part of it. My original video was 21 minutes long – the next one I did was 14 minutes long – the next one I did was just over 7 minutes long – and that’s the one Rudy used. He asked if he could trim it and I explained, it’s all his to do with as he pleases! He used a majority of the footage, but since his has been out for several days, I figured I would release the uncut version of the slightly over 7 minute version.

SierraChest – 10 Year Celebration!

Rudy wrote: Greetings!

Today the Sierra Chest celebrates its 10th anniversary and for this occasion I created a little show with lots and lots of guests from Sierra and Dynamix, as well as Sierra fans and creators of other fan sites.

A big thank you for the guests on the show! I won’t tag them yet, cause that would ruin the surprise for the viewers.

Hope you like it.

Rudy

PS: Yes, I know it’s a little earlier than announced, but why wait!

SpaceVenture Update #118: Two Guys SpaceVenture

Hey everyone! As promised, we wanted to give you a more detailed look at all the voice over that has gone into SpaceVenture. In the last update, we had not yet flown to California to record the VO.

Back in the middle of August, Mark Crowe, Ken Allen, and myself(Chris Pope) flew to Los Angeles for five full days of voice over with some extremely talented people!

We have been pushing hard to get the VO working in the game and have made some headway but still have a long way to go. In this update, I am gonna feature a few of the actors in the game along with their VO. This will be “Part 1”, but I will post another update involving all this once we’ve got more of the VO in the game to demo for you all!

I’m also excited to announce two of the biggest roles in the game, right now!

ACE HARDWAY WILL BE VOICED BY MAURICE LAMARCHE

In the last update, we gave you a little of Maurice’s background, so I won’t do that now, but if you didn’t know, Maurice is one of the top voice actors in animation. If you’re not familiar with the characters he has voiced, please check out his mile long IMDB page. We were absolutely blown away by Maurice’s audition for Ace, and(once in the booth) how quickly he took direction to make Ace Hardway come to life. I won’t lie, after working on this game for six years, I got a little teary eyed standing there in the studio and getting to finally hear the voice of Ace Hardway speak dialog for the first time!

Here is a sit down I did with Maurice to talk a little about his history as an actor:

You are all probably chomping at the bit to get a chance to hear what Ace Hardway sounds like, so without further ado, here is a video featuring a cutscene with Ace Hardway(Maurice LaMarche) and Mervin Spleen(Rob Paulsen).

ROB PAULSEN

Rob Paulsen is another amazing voice actor with mile long credits just like Maurice. Rob did numerous characters for us in SpaceVenture that we will reveal as time goes on, but the one you saw in the above video is a character named Mervin Spleen. Here is behind the scenes sit down I did with Rob Paulsen.

ED KELLY WILL BE THE NARRATOR FOR SPACEVENTURE

The voice of the narrator is something we did not announce in the last update because we were still confirming things. Well we are happy to announce, we did finally settle on the narrator for the game and we have officially recorded the narrator VO as well. As you all know, we originally had the late Gary Owens on board to be the narrator for the game just like he narrated the later Space Quest games in the past.

For a couple of years now, we have gone back and forth on whether to find someone who could sound like Gary, or go a completely different direction. Within the last few months, we finally decided that we wanted to go with a happy medium and find someone that could parody Gary’s awesome sarcastic tone. We also thought it would be neat to honor Gary in a some ways. SpaceVenture will have some dedications to Gary and will include a scene that you, the player, will be a part of that pays tribute to Gary. Not gonna spoil that here though. You’ll find out when you play the game.

I have a lot more to show you all coming up in the next update, but here are some teaser small clips we posted on Facebook that will hopefully tide you over.

AN UPDATE ON SCOTT MURPHY

For awhile now, Scott has wanted to keep things private about what has been going on with him, and we have honored that. With his permission, we are gonna give you all a little info of what has been happening in his life.

Not too far after finishing the game design planning with Mark on SpaceVenture, Scott began having severe medical problems which has now escalated to an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

The good news: Scott was able to get surgery and currently it seems that the surgery was a success.

The bad news: With all that has happened, Scott ran up well over $30,000 in medical bills in doing so, and still has more procedures he needs to have done to make sure his health is in order.

On top of his current — as well as future — medical bills, Scott is also trying to pay the normal bills we all deal with. A place to live, utility bills, food, etc. With reluctance, Scott has given us permission to do a GoFundMe campaign to ease the financial stress that’s accumulated on top of the ordeal of recovering from prostate cancer. He is very appreciative of any help any of you can give his way.

Please keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages as we are gonna do some promotions to help raise money for Scott through the GoFundMe page. Troels, aka the Space Quest Historian will be doing some live streaming to help get the word out as well!

We know you would probably like more information. We will give more information as Scott allows.

Hero-U Project Update #106: Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption

Hero-U is currently 35% off on Steam
Hero-U is currently 35% off on Steam

If you have friends who have been on the fence about buying Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption, now is a great time to have them check out the game on Steam. We’re running a 35% off sale there ($22.74 sale price in the U.S., varies by country).

Currently the sale is on Steam only; we’ll do a similar sale on GoG in a few weeks. We’re trying to get more players to discover the game and hopefully talk about it to their friends.

Upcoming Patch

We continue to work on improving Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption even while we are getting started on our other projects and finishing the art book and other Rogue to Redemption accessories.

In particular, we’ve fixed an issue that caused the display to not work on some systems with 16:10 ratio monitors. Previously, we only supported 16:9 and 4:3 ratios, the most common displays.

We’re also fine-tuning the Boss Wraith combat, fixing an occasional lockup fighting the Gog Shaman, and fixing some problems with other combat sequences. Then there are some text improvements suggested by players. We plan to package all of these changes into “Patch 3,” likely mid-October.

Cool Crowdfunding Campaigns Concluding Soon

There are nine days left in the Nighthawks Vampire RPG campaign – https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/753131002/nighthawks-the-vampire-rpg-0. Nighthawks is being designed by Richard Cobbett, formerly an editor at Rock Paper Shotgun. Richard wrote some insightful articles about Quest for Glory that tell us he “gets” what it takes to make a great adventure game. This one sounds like a hybrid adventure/RPG much like Hero-U. Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games (Blackwell, Unavowed) is producing the game, a good portent that it will actually get done. I’m backing this one personally.

Over on Fig.co, check out the Starflight 3 funding campaign – https://www.fig.co/campaigns/starflight-3. Starflight was a fun and important space exploration RPG. Starflight 2 took it up a notch, and Starflight 3 could become a great game in the series. It’s halfway to the goal with just two days left, so this project will need a lot of last-minute love (or a few dedicated investors) to make it happen. Fig has a similar model to Kickstarter, but also allows investment in the success of products. Their CEO formerly worked at Double Fine and helped launch Broken Age.

Watch for some additional news next month about a small crowdfunding campaign we plan to have to support a Nintendo Switch (and possibly PS4 and XBoxOne) version of Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption.

Visit www.hero-u.com for more information or to participate in our forums. And please continue to tell your friends if you love Hero-U. Personal testimonials and social media sharing are our best way to reach out to potential players.

Hero-U Project Update #105: Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption

Patch 2 has passed testing, and we released it a couple of weeks ago. We’re already working on another very small patch that fixes some issues with the game launcher for players who have 16:10 ratio monitors. Previously we only supported 16:9 and 4:3 monitors.

As usual, the patch will also include some minor game play improvements. For example, talking to a character after midnight sometimes results in information that should not have come up until the “next day.” We’d have made it much easier on ourselves to enforce a midnight bedtime, but when have we ever taken the easy approach in game design?

Game books – art book, bestiary, hint book, yearbook, and soundtrack – are in progress. We’re just starting on the hint book, and the yearbook needs a major rework. The other three are nearly complete. We would like to have the yearbook done before we ship boxed games, but we might have to ship them separately to ensure backers get their boxed games in November.

I am working with Fig to crowdfund a Nintendo Switch version of Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption. Fig is also helping us with an upcoming advertising campaign for the PC versions of the game. I’ll post project details when the campaign is ready to launch.

Our team is also currently working on not one, but two, upcoming games. Hero-U: Wizard’s Way will be every bit as ambitious (or more so) than Rogue to Redemption, and will take us several years to complete.

Postcard from Summer Daze at Hero-U

In the meantime, we’re focusing on Summer Daze at Hero-U. This is a smaller-scope game that we hope to complete within a year. It focuses on character relationships as the player tries to prepare for and run the Harvest Festival. You can’t do it alone! We are designing Summer Daze to work on mobile devices as well as PC’s.

Send your friends to http://www.hero-u.com/ to learn more about Rogue to Redemption, and visit there to communicate with the team and other players on our forum.

DOSBox 0.74-2 has been released!

A maintenance release for DOSBox 0.74, which solves the following problems:

Windows: Fix auto/max cycles algorithm on Windows 7, which helps with stuttering audio.
Mac OS X: Bring a 64 bit version and improve performance.
Linux: Fix the 64bit dynrec cpu core and a lot of compilation problems. Add patches for the WINE Team.

The game compatibility should be identical to 0.74.

We have saved all game fixes for the upcoming 0.75 release, which will enter regression testing soon. This release has been created so you can go back to 0.74-2, in case we happen to break your favorite game in 0.75.
