SpaceVenture – FULL RELEASE ON STEAM!

Hey everyone! After several months of updates, refinements, and polishing SpaceVenture v2, we’re thrilled to announce that the full release of SpaceVenture is officially available today on Steam and on our DRM-free platform, itch.io. This release arrived later in the year than we originally planned, but once you see the scope of the improvements and enhancements, we think you’ll understand why it took a little longer—and we hope you’ll agree it was worth the wait.

FULL RELEASE IMPROVEMENTS

IMPROVED SAVE/LOAD SYSTEM

From the very beginning, we’ve wanted SpaceVenture to feature a more classic, “Sierra-style” save and load system. Due to some unforeseen circumstances—details we won’t rehash here—we weren’t sure for a long time if that vision would become a reality. We’re happy to report that one of our programmers took on the challenge of completely overhauling the system. What followed were months of redesign and countless hours of testing to ensure saving and loading worked exactly the way we envisioned.

Nearly every scene in the game now allows you to save at any moment, just like a traditional Sierra adventure, and reload right back to that point. There are only a handful of situations where a scene will restart upon loading due to technical limitations, but even in those cases, you should lose very little gameplay time. We’re also pleased to confirm that any existing saves from the *Early Access* version of SpaceVenture remain fully compatible with the *Full Release*.

In addition to manual saves, SpaceVenture still includes an autosave system that triggers when you die, making the experience a bit more forgiving than classic adventure games of the past. For example, if you save a game, play for the next 30 minutes, and then die without saving again, you won’t be sent all the way back to that earlier save. Instead, the game automatically saves your progress upon entering the most recent scene. If you die there, it will reload that scene rather than forcing you to replay a large chunk of gameplay.

STEAM ACHIEVEMENTS ADDED

We’ve added 22 (and counting!) Steam Achievements to SpaceVenture, giving players even more reasons to explore every corner of the game. Below is just a glimpse of the achievements you can earn along the way:

• Die in a variety of creative ways throughout SpaceVenture
• Earn high scores in SpaceVenture’s various mini-games
• Complete SpaceVenture from start to finish
• Unlock the infamous Bad Ending
• Collect all of the backer cards hidden throughout the game

…and many more surprises waiting to be uncovered!

Note that there are three achievement icons below we are still in the process of adding just as a heads up!

CLUCK YEGGER IN ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE POULTROIDS

In the Early Access version of SpaceVenture, there was a section where players could partially experience Cluck Yegger in Escape from the Planet of the Poultroids. As many of you know, this is a tongue-in-cheek survival horror mini-game—very much in the spirit of Five Nights at Freddy’s—where our resident flying rooster, Cluck Yegger, must survive seven nights while Colonel Zander’s deranged mutant chickens roam the area.

During Early Access, players were limited to only three nights. In the full release, however, completing this sequence now unlocks the entire game, making it available to play directly from the main menu at any time. And don’t worry—the version that appears within SpaceVenture still lets you “wimp out” if you’d rather skip it altogether.

Just a quick reminder: the button shown in the screenshot below only becomes available after you reach and complete—or choose to wimp out of—the Cluck Yegger sequence in the game.

SOUND/AUDIO IMPROVEMENTS

All sound effects and music have undergone a more thorough audio leveling pass compared to the previous build. We think you’ll find this version delivers a more balanced and enjoyable listening experience overall.

We’ve also added new sound configuration options that can be adjusted at any time during gameplay. You can access these settings by opening Ace’s PDA and clicking the sound icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, or by pressing F2 on your keyboard.

The available audio controls include:
• Master Volume
• Music Volume
• SFX Volume

For players who prefer a cleaner screen, there’s also an option to disable on-screen narration text with a simple checkbox. Best of all, the game remembers your audio and display preferences between play sessions, so once you set them, you’re good to go.

OTHER POLISH ITEMS

All told, our change log reflects nearly 500 updates and improvements since the original Early Access release. Below are a few additional polish items and refinements that didn’t quite fit into the sections above.

  • In-game text has been reviewed and significantly improved for grammar and clarity
  • Several scenes have received visual enhancements, including updated artwork, visual effects, and animations
  • The vast majority of reported bugs have been fixed
  • Missing voice-over lines in certain narration segments have been added

THE SPACEVENTURE SOUNDTRACK

We’re excited to announce that our composer, Ken Allen, has completed the official SpaceVenture soundtrack! $30 and up Kickstarter backers will be receiving access to the soundtrack as part of their rewards. We’ll be sending out details on how to access it soon, so please keep an eye out for further information.

Anyone else can order the SpaceVenture™ Official Soundtrack from KenAllenMusic.com.

Personal note from Ken:

Working on the SpaceVenture™ soundtrack has been a genuine joy. Reuniting with the Guys From Andromeda after all these years felt less like returning to a job and more like picking up a conversation that never really ended. From the first notes to the final mix, the goal was always to serve the game, to support its humor, its heart, and its sense of adventure without ever getting in the way.

This score was written hand-in-hand with the world of SpaceVenture as it took shape, responding to characters, environments, and moments both heroic and absurd. I’m incredibly grateful to Mark, Scott, and the entire team for trusting me with the musical voice of this project, and to the Kickstarter backers whose support helped make it possible.

I hope the soundtrack adds something meaningful to your experience, whether you’re playing the game, listening on its own, or revisiting a reminder of why these adventures still matter.

— Ken Allen, Your Music Pal

PHYSICAL BACKER REWARDS

The status of physical backer rewards remains unchanged since our last update. As previously mentioned, we do physical items in hand, but we don’t yet have all the funds required to ship them. The good news is that the Early Access version of SpaceVenture did generate some sales, and we’re hopeful that the full release will help us reach the point where we can ship everything out. Below is a quick reminder of our plan moving forward:

• Revenue from game sales on Steam and other platforms will be used to cover the shipping costs for all physical rewards.
• For those who have asked about paying for shipping themselves to receive rewards sooner, we plan to offer this option in the future and will share details once it becomes available.
• Please do not email us your mailing address at this time. When we’re ready to proceed, we’ll send out a survey through Kickstarter to collect updated shipping information.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work toward fulfilling these rewards.

VERY IMPORTANT

We’ve received reports that some backers did not receive our original email with SpaceVenture download information. After investigating, it appears that certain email providers may have routed our messages to spam or junk folders.

To ensure you don’t miss important updates—especially details related to reward distribution—please add our email address to your safe sender or whitelist as soon as possible.

Please note: Kickstarter does not allow us to distribute Steam keys or other digital rewards directly through their platform. All reward delivery and related communication must be handled via email.

Be sure to whitelist the following email address:

Adding us to your safe sender list will help ensure you receive all future updates, rewards, and critical information related to your pledge.

If you have not received your Steam key and access to the DRM free version of SpaceVenture for Windows, please direct message us on Kickstarter.

OTHER PLATFORM RELEASES OF SPACEVENTURE

We are still fully planning on bringing SpaceVenture to additional platforms, and those plans remain unchanged. While we don’t have new details to share just yet, work in this area is still ongoing behind the scenes. As soon as we have meaningful updates or concrete information to report, we’ll be sure to share it with you right away.

FINAL NOTES

We hope you’re just as excited as we are to see SpaceVenture finally reach this milestone. While the full release is a huge moment for us, we still have ideas and plans for future improvements, and we’re especially looking forward to continuing work on bringing the game to additional platforms.

We’d also like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. Our team will be spending the next few days with our families, but we’ll continue to keep an eye on messages and respond when we’re able. Thank you all again for your continued support and enthusiasm.

Rest in Peace Roberta Vaughn.

The folks of Adventure Game Spot wrote an wonderful memorial for Roberta Vaughn with many sharing memories.

I, myself, never had the good fortune of meeting her in person. But if you were on any of the Sierra related Facebook Groups/Pages, you undoubtedly saw posts from Roberta, and how she engaged and entwined she was in Sierra fandom – even being there with the Coles during their Hero-U Kickstarter and so much more. She and I exchanged replies every blue moon on Facebook (on the many Sierra groups) – and I could tell (not just from those but how she was in general) – she was deep and passionate about Sierra and her friends. Reading all those who shared memories of her, it is beyond touching to see how impactful she was to so many. I am so deeply sorry I never got the pleasure of meeting her in person, but even digitally, I could tell she was such a caring person.

Rest in peace, Roberta. Your passion for life and Sierra will be missed.

Project Update #133: Two Guys SpaceVenture

We have some exciting news to share regarding the progress of SpaceVenture!

Before diving into the latest developments, we highly encourage you to read our previous Kickstarter update, as it provides important context for what’s ahead. If you haven’t done so yet, you can find it HERE.

Over the past few months, our team has been hard at work moving through several key development phases:

  • Phase 1: Transitioning SpaceVenture to the latest version of Unity
  • Phase 2: Conducting multiple full rounds of QA testing and bug fixing
  • Phase 3: Testing the game with our beta backers (those who pledged $30 and above)
  • Phase 4: Releasing SpaceVenture v2 to all backers who pledged $15 and above

In our last update, we shared that we had just entered Phase 3. We’re excited to report that we’re now nearing completion of the beta testing phase and preparing to move into Phase 4—the official release to all eligible backers!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the beta testing process. Your feedback has been incredibly valuable in helping us identify bugs and improve gameplay. Thanks to your reports and support, we’ve been able to make SpaceVenture better than ever.

VERY IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ THIS

We’ve received reports that some backers did not receive our recent emails regarding the SpaceVenture beta download. After looking into the issue, it appears that our messages may have been filtered into spam or junk folders by certain email providers.

SPACEVENTURE IS ABOUT TO BE ON STEAM

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1374960/SpaceVenture/?beta=0

Please help us get the word out now by visiting the Steam page and clicking the “ADD TO WISH LIST” button

We are now at a place where we are ready to do an “Early Release” version of SpaceVenture on Steam. We are shooting for doing this on April 1st! If everything goes smoothly with Steam accepting the build, then that will be the date that the game will be released. Else, we will fix anything that they need us to fix, and the game will show up as soon as that is done.

Once SpaceVenture goes live on Steam, we will be getting everything together for sending out Steam codes to all $15 and up backers. If everything goes smoothly, that will happen on the day the game goes live (in Early Release) on Steam. If not, we’ll work it out and get the codes in your hands ASAP. We will also be getting you all access to the DRM free version of the game as well.

What can you expect out of the Early Access version of SpaceVenture?

  • The Early Access version offers a cohesive adventure game experience and story that is playable from start to finish, containing the vast majority of the original vision for SpaceVenture
  • We will continue to adjust some of the functionality of the game as we progress to the full release
  • There are some gameplay sequences such as the Cluck Yegger Facebox mini game that is only partly in SpaceVenture. We do plan to allow for the full game play experience eventually, however this will always be skippable and not a requirement for completing the game.
  • There will most likely still be some bugs that we are trying to work out along the way, so that should be expected, but considering the many rounds of beta testing we’ve been through, these should be minor.
  • We are still adding some lines of VO that never got hooked up in earlier builds of the game, as well as some missing SFX
  • We also would like to improve game mechanics, expand interactions in the various game environments as well as improve NPC behaviors throughout this process as well.

How long will this game be in Early Access?

The current plan is to have a full release by summer 2025, but this may move back if feedback from the community is extensive.

As we get SpaceVenture into Steam as early access, we plan to do our best to put the rest of the finishing touches as mentioned above. Once those are done, we will do the full release. After the full release of the game, we plan to begin working on ports. We will focus on the Macintosh and Linux versions first.

NEWS ON BACKER REWARDS

The details about physical rewards remain the same as we’ve mentioned over the past few months. As previously stated, we have physical rewards in our possession but currently lack the funds to ship them. Here’s a reminder of our plan:

  • Revenue from game sales on Steam and other platforms will be used to cover the cost of shipping the physical rewards to everyone.
  • For those of you wondering if it would be possible to pay for shipping yourself to receive your backer rewards sooner, we plan to offer this option in the future and will provide more details when it becomes available.
  • Please do not email us your mailing address at this time. When we’re ready, we’ll send out a survey via Kickstarter to collect updated mailing information from you.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work toward fulfilling these rewards.

THE SPACEVENTURE BOX SIGNING EXTRAVAGANZA

At the start of March, we had the incredible opportunity to get together in person for a milestone we’ve been looking forward to for a long time—the official signing of the physical backer rewards! We signed nearly 4,000 items over the course of just two days.

It was a whirlwind effort, but also a deeply meaningful one. Holding these physical items in our hands—knowing they’re eventually going to make it out to those who have supported us all these years—was both humbling and energizing.

As promised, we captured some moments from the event to share with you. Below, you’ll find a couple of behind-the-scenes photos and a fun video clip of the signing session.

Thank you again for your patience, support, and enthusiasm. We’re getting closer every day, and this signing session was one more big step toward bringing SpaceVenture fully to life.

DOCUMENTARY FILMING

While we were together earlier this month, we had the distinct honor of participating in interviews for the upcoming documentary titled “Legends of Adventure: The Story of Sierra On-Line.” This project aims to celebrate the legacy of Sierra and the incredible impact it had on the world of adventure gaming—not to mention the video game world as a whole.

We’re excited for you to see more when the documentary is officially released. In the meantime, here are a couple of behind-the-scenes photos from the interview session to give you a small glimpse of what’s to come:

MARK CROWE OPENS HIS DYNAMIX OFFICE BOX SEALED SINCE 1999

Many of you are already familiar with the dramatic story behind the rise and fall of Sierra On-Line. If you haven’t explored that part of gaming history yet, we highly recommend checking out Ken Williams’ book and Shawn Mills’ book —both offer fascinating behind-the-scenes insights into the company’s journey.

Some of you may also know that in 1991, Mark transitioned from the Sierra On-Line office in Oakhurst to work at one of its subsidiaries, Dynamix. Like many of the companies Sierra acquired, Dynamix was ultimately caught in the financial collapse of its parent company. When Sierra began to go under, Dynamix was swept up in the fallout, and Mark, like many others, had to pack up his office and move on.

Recently, Mark pulled a sealed box out of storage filled with items he had kept from the last day he left his office at Dynamix—untouched for decades. We thought it would be fun to share that moment with you, so we filmed a special unboxing video of those long-lost mementos from his time at Dynamix.

It’s a nostalgic peek into a pivotal moment in gaming history, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
